Vandals of the Week
College Wednesday Guest: Marty Moore
Every Wednesday, Mrs. McLellan does something fun for College Wednesday, like inviting a special guest to talk about college. Last week, Mrs. Brown shared her college story, and that is what I am going to do this morning.
I went to Van High School, and after I graduated, I started college at East Texas State University, which is now called Texas A&M Commerce. After a couple of years, I transferred to Texas A&M in College Station.
College can be a lot of work, but it’s also really fun! I loved being in the band, twirling, and joining a group of friends called a sorority. I was also in the Student Senate, where we helped make decisions for the school. When I went to Texas A&M, I got serious about studying but still found time to be part of the FFA, take part in Aggie traditions, and watch football, basketball, and baseball games.
Usually, it takes about four years to finish college, but I changed my mind about what I wanted to do a few times, so it took me five years. At first, I wasn’t sure what I wanted to be when I grew up, but deep down, I really wanted to be a teacher. My parents didn’t want me to at first, but after I talked to them about how important it was to me, they supported my dream.
I have worked as an educator at the elementary, jr. high, and high school levels, but working with 2nd and 3rd graders is my favorite. After several years of teaching, I went back to college so I could be a school counselor. I did that for 7 years. Then I went back to college again so that I could be a school administrator. I am honored and blessed to be the principal of Van Intermediate School and it’s because I went to college.
Thank you Mrs. George for getting the kids cool wildlife items to explpore!!
Vandal Bucks
This is a school-wide, positive incentive program where students may earn Vandal bucks to purchase rewards from the rewards menu. See the menu below and talk to your child at home to help us build interest! These bucks can be given by anyone in the school and there are even ways for the whole class to earn them.
Win time fun!
In science lab students did a sink or float experiment, in maker space student got to free build and in counselor’s corner they learned what it means to be a bucket filler.
